About Me

I believe in the power of building strong relationships with women and birthing people from their pregnancy to the fourth trimester and the transformative sense of calm and control that this brings.

My name is Charlie Schofield (they/them). I’m Brighton-based and my fascination with all things birth and newborns led me towards the wonderful doula path. I’ve previously nannied for families with young babies and worked with adults with mental health and neurodiversity support needs.

  • I believe in navigating important life events surrounded by community.

I am super inspired by the communities in my life to become a reliable and nurturing part of the network for families during one of their biggest times of transition.

I am a member of a Care Collective in Brighton. On a weekly basis I support a young woman with a learning disability in attending a forest garden allotment to participate in volunteer gardening. My partner and I also love taking her to a community disco.

  • Listening is at the centre of my practice.

I’m an energetic and creative doula who knows the value of some undivided reflection time and a cup of tea. I love bouncing ideas back and forth, getting to know the intricacies of a parent’s likes and dislikes, finding people’s unique rhythms and helping to situate people in caring networks.

We are faced with so many decisions in our lives and the internet provides added noise to contend with. I am a sounding board for birthing plans and ideas. I hold space for beautiful and simple moments of ritual and pause that can help to foster feelings of control.

  • “Charlie takes their role very seriously and shows a maturity beyond their years. I do not hesitate to recommend them.”

—A parent of one of the adults I support

  • “Charlie is cheerful and pleasant to have around, thoughtful, kind, caring, respectful. I honestly can’t think of a single reason not to employ them.”

  • Creative Support

I’m a practising artist and when I’m not reading about all things to do with birth or working with the wonderful people I support, I’m making abstract sculpture, drawing and writing poetry.

Creative processes such as drawing or collage or other therapeutic practices can be part of the support I offer. I believe in creative expression as a tool for communication and have facilitated therapeutic art workshops for children and for people experiencing homelessness and addiction.

  • Training with Developing Doulas

My training is with a fantastic organisation called Developing Doulas, which is a Doula UK accredited course. I am supported by a mentor who is an experienced doula. I am able to offer my services at a slightly reduced rate in my first year of working with a mentor, which allows my clients to benefit from the expertise of both of us for a more accessible price.

I also have a certificate in Baby Massage with the London School of Childcare Studies.

I have an enhanced DBS check and Paediatric First Aid training.

Book in an initial call

I offer a free call, which is an opportunity for you to ask me questions about the way I work, tell me more about the kind of support you are looking for and get a feeling for whether we might be a good fit. I look forward to hearing from you!
